How heavy is an engine?

Post by IaininTenbury »

Hi folks, just a quick question, anyone know offhand the approx weight of a Morris Minor engine. No ancillaries, just engine with head. I need to arrange carriage for one and if someone knows, it'll save me abusing the bathroom scales finding out! :lol:
cheers

lbs = kgs X 2.2
In other words, double the kgs and then add 10%
Not exact but close enough for gumint work.

Hmm, I'd have guessed about 40kg, as I can just pick one up and carry it, (not that I'd do it if I could avoid it these days :-? ) and I wouldn't have thought I could pick up 100kg... May have to try the scales, or even visit the gym..... :)

A person weighs about 80kg.. I'd say an engine with all the bits weighed more than that.. The A series weighs more than a 1400 zetec se engine, I promise you that.

I managed to fit the new engine to the morris by hand today, and it was bloddy heavy :lol:

I would guess around the 100kg mark if not slightly more, it is a stonking lump of iron!

Im realy no expert here on engine removals, but would it be easier to have a square plank of wood with a trolley jack underneath the engine,maybey even a couple of old setbelts tied around the engine and plank to prevent it from rolling off. or am i just talking a load of....

The safest way to fit an engine is to use an engine crane/hoist if you can borrow one. Planks of wood snap and old belts slip.

They weigh about 18 to 20 stone, we did an engine transplant on my car and two of us manhandled it in, but it was heavy.

As a dead weight, out of the car two men can easily lift it.

Well, those who said about 100kg are right! Had it on the scales this aft and it came in about 15 stone, so with flywheel and clutch, say 16 stone or 101kg. Heavier than me anyway! Bit chuffed really I didn't realise I lift such a weight.... :)
