wiring conundrums

Post by stag36587 »

hi all, I have decided to have my existing loom rebraided. However, there seem to be a few differences between this and the excellent wiring diagram that's a sticky on this forum. Can anyone identify these please?

finally, underneath what little remained of the original braiding I found four wires that had been spliced together and covered with insulation tape. I'm pretty sure this can't have been original but has anyone else found this?[frame]Image[/frame]

Of course it's not original...... The little lights are for the speedo illumination (now ESSENTIAL to pass an MOT) - the red with long insulator is probably for the number plate light. The plug is for the headlights - presumably to a non-standard dip switch. Blue is the feed , blue white is main beam and blue red is dip beam.

The plug is for connection to a sealed beam or halogen headlight unit.
If you lay the new loom out on the ground you can work out where most of the wires go.
The messageboard wiring diagram is a good guide but for rewiring you need a workshop manual with a diagram specific to your model car.

Looks very similar to the plug that goes on the end of the sealed beam headlight.

I agree - it looks slightly similar....... but a headlamp plug has two spade sockets in the same plane and one at right angles to them.... And - it would have blue/white + blue/red + BLACK cables attached.....and there would be two of them.....

Indeed and I have two white connectors as bmc describes. I'm assuming this black connector fits to the floor dip switch?

It's an exact match for the connector on my standard floor mounted dipswitch from 1 1968 car.

And the red, green/white, green/red, and green/purple are the colours for tail lights, indicators, and brake lights.
