Hi
I wonder if anyone can help?
I have a marina disc brake conversion that I bought as part of a job lot several years ago and did nothing with.
I've now put it onto my traveller as I've recently changed to a 1300 ital engine.
I understand that there are several variations on the marina conversion and I wonder which sort I have.
The hubs fit the stud pattern of the minor wheels. There is a sleeve that fits on the minor stub axel and the hub fits snugly on that. The outer bearing appears to be a tapered one. There is a single castellated nut (?not the same as the marina which has a plain nut and a nut retainer).
My question is how tight should I tighten the castellated nut.
I understand that on a marina it shouldn't be as tightly screwed on as on the standard minor set up.
Also the leading outer edge of the calliper is quite close to the edge of the hub (just a few mm clearance). The hub spins freely but I wasn't sure if this was normal for this set up.
Thanks
Tom

Re: Marina disc question
Spin the wheel in direction of forward rotation, and at the same time tighten the nut to 5 lb ft. With the wheel held still, slacken the nut and then do it up "finger tight". Normally, there would be a retainer with a plain nut, but I guess that the castled nut will work in the same way... At this point, the hole through the axle should be half covered, back the nut off just enough the slip the split pin into place. Check that the wheel spins freely. You should expect a small amount of play. These bearing are completely different from the standard Minor ones.

Re: Marina disc question
the small gap between calliper and hub seems normal. it's close on mine too.
i can only imagine that the nut retainer seems to be recommended as it has more slots, giving more likelihood of a slot lining up with a hole in the stub axle. I've always used the normal minor nut, but often have to back the nut off a little to get a slot to line up.

Also, on mine, I had two washers that go under the nut. One slides over the stub to take up some slack. Without it the bearings do not get clamped and will always be loose.
