Bump Stops

Post by gammy126 »

Hi all , I'm in the process of putting poly bushes on my suspension and i have noticed that there arnt any bump stops. Iv orders some from EMS can i just drill through the welded plate and fix with self tappers or will i have to fix with nuts and bolts as access to the area is difficult.
As usual all ideas welcome
many thanks
Alan :D

Hello Alan,

Nuts and bolts, they are not that bad for access. You may find that the base plates of the original stops are still bolted in place and the rubbers themselves have just dropped off?

Thanks for the reply Alex. Iv just had another look and there are no holes at all so i will have to drill new ones directly through the metal.
Its a bit tight behind the window wiper motor.

Cheers

Hello Alan,

the bump stops are not behind the wiper motor but on the top of the inner wing. The originals are bolted on so should be easily replaced. Can you post a picture of your car as it sounds rather strange?

Pic under bonnet . if you look close you can see where there use to be a hole is this a mounting point. You can see it better on the next pic behind the wiper motor.[frame]Image[/frame]

The passenger side one looks right. The bump stops bolt through those holes. The drivers side seems to have a layer of filler or something over it?

The two hole one is for a Minor front - they are handed, so it will only fit one side of the car. The other item is an early Mini front bump stop...no use on a Minor.

Hello Alan,

in picture one, you can see a semi circular mark (Looks like the top trunnion has been bottoming against the body, lightly fortunately), this is where the bump stop should be, the sealant\filler is covering the attachment point, there should be two holes there for the mounting. They do rust away so it looks as though a bodge job has been done.
