Post by tomas.geoghegan »

Hi Anyone have any advice on replaceing a standard air filter for a chrome KN Air filter. On a 948 minor.
Thanks Tomas

Just make sure there is still some sort of breather for the rocker cover. K&N's don't tend to have a breather inlet, so you can end up with a hose and nowhere to go.

Also, be aware that the mixture will likely need adjusting to suit. Potentially a needle change if the mixture is affected differently at different points in the rev range.

Hi There
The breather hose goes from the rocker cover to the carb. so should be Ok
Thanks Tomas

Why would you want a K&N filter? As far as I can make out they're just for show and underbonnet bling.

Not sure how much more power, if any.
Definitely more noise though.

I would have thought the manufacturer designed it to give the most air-flow, no?

Can't see a K&N type filter making an otherwise standard Minor set the tarmac alight.

Agree on a standard engine it's not going to make much difference - but when the engine is uprated with a decent head and cam - that's when the benefits come.

Hi Bmc im not trying to turn my car into a gravel burning racer.as quoted by other club members. (Its a free world)
But i do totally agree with that.Theres not much power gain on a standard moggy Just think they sound great and are really smart looking. And a couple more BHP in the bargin.
Best Regards Tomas
