rear hub nut

Post by Matt Tomkins »

right, to be sure before i give wrong advice. when removing the right hand rear hub nut, am i correct in thinking that it's a left handed thread -- i.e lefty tighty?
I know the theory that whren i forward motion, tightens up, but not sure enough of myself. advice greatly appreciated

Matt,
Right hub right hand thread, left hub left hand thread.
If you have to replace them beware-the new 46mm nuts on the market are rubbish-badly cut threads!

Declan, Matt was asking on my behalf, i'm having to replace the driver's side rear wheel bearing...right hand side/drivers side, so is it normal right hand thread/lefty loosy.....or is it left handed thread/left tighty? Just double checking cos it's getting confusing :-?

think of it like this............ turn the nut towards the front of the car to tighten it. it's the same principle for both sides.

So it is a perfectly normal RIGHT HAND thread...... Unusual to have to renew a rear wheel bearing....what happened to it?

it's just progressive wear, old age is starting to show and i'm very sure it will fail soon so i want to replace it before it causes any more damage. It's also affected the oil seal because i have oil all over the inside of my brake drum, making that brake pretty useless :-?

The saying goes for a normal right handed thread as my wife told me. "lefty-loosey, righty-tighty" Which strangley enough makes sence to me
