rear oil seal

I have just bought a gasket set and rear oilseal,as someone suggested it to me.Please forgive my ignorance but when it refers to a rear oil seal,where in fact IS IT?????????????????????????????????????

Rear oil seal - for what ??? The gearbox?? Back axle ?? the engine doesn't have a 'rear oil seal'.

I have a leak behind the sump,and someone suggested i bought a rear seal,i imagine it was for the gear box.the seal ia about 1.1/2 in diameter,looks a bronzy colour and has a stepped down body.

That's the one for the tailshaft of the gearbox........is it leaking?? Who suggested this??
