DVLA Change Advice

Hi folks,

I bought my moggy a few months ago. Only slight concern is that the V5 states that it is blue but the car is actually black. The previous owner informed me that it had been resprayed at some point in it's lifetime and, as I'm currently replacing the front wings, I have been able to see the original colour underneath.

Question : I would like the V5 to be up to date. Does anyone know what this would involve and if it would cost me money to do so? If it costs loads I probably won't bother and just leave things as is.

Any changes to the vehicle can be notified to the DVLA by filling in the changes section of the registration document and sending it to Swansea.
I have just had to send mine off as the engine number and chassis number were incorrect.

Yes. I was rather nervous when I had to change the address on my licence. They have a habit of managing to lose people's motorcycle entitlement, followed by refusing to accept anything other than the original test pass certificate as evidence, which they then refuse to return to you. Fortunately I have my test pass certificate, but there are plenty of instances of people who no longer have their certificate having to re-take their test.

The best you can do is photocopy (recent newspaper as background) anything you send. It's not a bad idea to do this with all correspondence to anywhere!----damn it, wish I knew the latin for Trust no-one. Changing the colour of your car with the DVLA should not be a problem but do expect major grief if you are trying to change an engine number.....

I sent off my son`s to change the engine from a 1098 to 1275 and there were no issues at all.
It came back within about 3 weeks with the amended details.

I rise to the challenge, but struggle: the best I can manage is "Timeo Silures et licentias ferentes", which is a bit too specific.

There must be someone here whose Latin peaked more recently than the mid-sixties.

There have been a few such incidents reported or alluded to: did the person who paid a once-prolific contributor with a fondness for bright green ever get the drawing he paid for? And wasn't there a young chap from the West Midlands acquiring a bit of a reputation for unreliability before he ran off to Another Place? I suppose the feckless, the hapless, and the dishonest will always be lurking in the shadows. Shame, really.

Good to hear they have become more sensible over this with classics. I had a lot of grief changing from a 1098 to a 948 engine. The DVLA told me it was because people are (aledgedly) fitting smaller engines to cars to reduce the amount of road tax they have to pay. They didn't really have an answer wehen I pointed out that my Minor was tax free anyway.....

The make on my V5 said "Rover"
and the chassis number was wrong by one digit

I sent it off to DVLA with corrections & a covering note

Came back....make was now "Morris", but chassis No. still wrong.

Corrected & sent off again, with a note.

Came back.....Chassis No still wrong.

Kevin regarding your quotation of my remark about trust. This character refered to received some lcv stuff from me in February last, and despite making numerous excuses to me since then, ( I've never found it too taxing to pop a cheque into an envelope and post) I haven't seen any money, we're not talking much but just shows the sort of people you can come across. My fault really, for sending the goods before getting the money, just felt he'd play fair! I don't want to name him here at this stage, in the meantime learn by my mistake. The few spoiling it for the many!

Not convinced. Fides is a noun, but unlike English I don't think it's a verb as well. BICBW. But I do like the dative "nemini". I think credo takes the dative, too, so how about "credite nemini"?

Absolutely no offence intended to the Other Place - I did say "ran off to", not "was sent to" I don't know the history of the schism, assuming there was one, but I'm quite happy to lurk there occasionally. Fascinating when the same question crops up from someone hoping for the answer they want if they ask often enough (qv horn wiring).
