Rain then garage

Hi
I was just wondering what pepole do with there cars when it rains then they have to be stored in a garage?

I took mine out today then all of a suddenly it tipped it down so when i got home i put the car in the garage and dried the worst of it off with a towel.

Did i do the right thing?

Yes.

I check for water inside the boot and floor by the front screen too. I always take a couple of bath towels to shows incase of a downpour... mine leaks like no-ones business.

I have heard that putting a car away wet in a garage without any fresh air/airflow can be worse than leaving it out to dry. I try to leave the car out to dry before putting it away but if it is still bucketing down then leave the garage door open for a while. I know this is not practical if your garage is in a block and you cannot keep an eye on it.

Beero is correct. It was highlighted quite a few times in Honest John in the Daily Telegraph Motoring supplement; putting a wet car into a garage is worse than leaving it out in the rain as condensation forms which eats box sections and cavities away.

It's better to leave the car outside and let the wind dry it than in a damp garage with no airflow.

You can dry the bodywork as much as you like but can never dry inside the sills, chassis rails and underneath, where it really matters.

You can always put a fan in the garage to blow air around (assuming there is power in there)

If not one of those dashboard fans coupled to a spare battery will move a bit of air and help the drying process

Mine just sits out in all weathers all year round...I use it all the time and don't have a garage and I haven't had any problems any way, I just keep an eye out for leaks....

Just don't ever get it wet in the first place...check the forecast before leaving the garage.....

I Just leave my car out rather than in a garage and polish it regularly. As long as you have no leaks.
naturally is much better than a garage. Iv done this for 3 years and still looks real good!
And in the frost put a car cover on it in the winter. And take off the next day. All works for me.
