bmw k series head

Post by stuart3925 »

Hi,
I have started to breath a new lease of life into my 1957 4 door saloon and plan to do some mods into the bargain. what I would like to know has any one here put the K series twincam bmw motobike head on thier minor like a lot of the mini boys do. I only ask as I have one of these heads knocking around and have the facilities to do a lot of the work requiered at home.
Kind Regards
Stuart

i know of ONE minor with that conversion, but i dont think he's on the forums.

He worked closely with the company that supplies a lot of the conversion parts for the minis. Can't remember what they're called 'Specialist Car Products' or Specialist Car Components' or something like that... Anyway, he worked a lot with them, as they were interested in offering the kit for minors too, so hopefully they could advise you.

This is on Ebay

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190182751516? ... 1423.l2649

It seems to be secondhand kit of parts but a good starting place.

" More than 10 available .... Seems low cost - I would check carefully exactly what it includes...

This one on a Mini in Sri lanka, on a 970 S block I used to own !!

The company is Specialist Components - http://www.specialist-components.co.uk/

If you get a copy of the latest Morris Minor Magazine (available in big WHSmiths') there's an article about a very nice minor with the conversion.

The chap's got a 1430 with the 16valve head. Peak power is 106bhp... which seems surprisingly little... That sort of power can be got out of a 1275 with a normal head with a cam swap and head work...

although their website suggests up to 180bhp is doable.

There's some good videos on their site, one of a dyno test of an engine producing 165bhp at 8500rpm!

Thank you all for your responses and I shall get that magazine. The more I get into the Project the more I find more money is required to build the engine. So far engine build costs are 3 times the original cost estimation and still rising so I may just end up fitting the v8 engine I have at the back of the workshop.

Just casually fitting a v8. Always the cheap alternative...
