Improved lights?

I'm on a tight budget ( Moggie repairs and welding) but I would like to improve the Headlights on my Traveller,its got an altenator,so if I cant improve the original spec Headlights,what Moderns can I use from a scrapyard?

None...... So just fit a set of halogens. If you really want the best from them, wire them so BOTH filaments are on when on main beam. But DO then beef up the earth wire as it will be carrying twice the normal current.

To be honest BMC I dont have a problem when Main Beam is on with the lights I have now,its just on Dip that I cant see far enough ahead when the road is unlit.

Maybe they just need adjusting! I recently had to use my Minor in the early hours and I was pleasantly surprised how good the 'sealed beam' lights are! Not had cause to drive it in the dark for several years. They are perfectly adequate for the speed of my car.

Hmmm, its free to adjust them, and it cant make them worse (famous last words)

Well, yes, you can....... the adjust screws may snap off leaving the light units to flap about uselessly...... take care!

On my S.II which has one original replaceable-bulb headlamp and one sealed beam, both Lucas, are fine and I would say above average considering the year of the car. I do a fair bit of night driving and am impressed by them.

You could always fit a period long-range spot lamp.

On my 1975 Allegro, which had its original lamps, seeing ahead was scary. I remember going along a quiet, unlit motorway at night and really being frightened how dim they were.
