Oil Filter Housing problem

Post by oddbod »

Removed Banjo Bolt from Housing,no signs of it releasing, tried gentle persuasion with a block of wood but no go. Do I need to release something else?

Solved the housing issue, used some rubber gloves and a wood mallet to "Tap and Twist". Now I am looking at 3 O rings that came with the filter. I would normally replace with the same one that came off,but there were 2 in the housing already ( I guess thats why it leaked) None of them seem to fit the housing that well and all are the same diameter as the Bowl. I guess the Square plate is above the spring, pushing up on the filter? Thats not how it came off,and I also have 2 round washers,is that right? If so I guess they go under the square plate?

I'm puzzled......why are you anywhere near the banjo bolt? And 'square plate' ???? there should be a ROUND plate under the filter - and yes the washers and spring under that...... I suspect someone has lost the round plate - and fitted a handy square one instead?? No harm IF it seals across the base of the paper filter ok. Dig out the two seals - and press in the one that fits best - use some grease to stick it in there...... But seriously - there is no need to touch the banjo bolt.....

Well,I'm pleased to report that the oil leak from my Filter Housing seems OK., the issues were: 2 seals fitted, one which was "chewed" as it wasn't seated properly in the upper bit, then the locating bolt (sorry I thought it was called a Banjo Bolt  ) was tightened horribly tight,I assume in an attempt to stop said leak? Thanks again for all the input and advice,it really helps to know its not just me that finds weird things on a Moggie. Now,I think, a problem may have arisen with tickover as the car is cutting out fairly often, even when warm at lights,or standing in traffic. Could these 2 things be related???????
