MOT failure
went for the MOT yesterday, was a bit worried about the halfshaft seal playing up again, but it held and is still not leaking. however failed on the nearside rear brakes, both foot and hand brake. ( nothing happening) at least everything else was fine. stripped out the back brakes to day, and found the left rear cylinder siezed solid and the other one semi siezed, apart from the internals being siezed the actual cylinders were pretty solid in the back plate ( not able to move up or down), this could be why when ever i tried to adjust the rear brakes i could never get the brakes to lock up with the adjuster screw turned up. any way, new cyilinders fitted, ( did not want to go through the back plate, had to file a bit of the bottom lip off, ) but at least they are free to slide up and down, new shoes, only need to bleed them tomorrow then retest. ( left the beehive springs off, having spent far to long trying to fit them) regards steve
Re: MOT failure
If that's all it failed on - well done ! An easy fix as you have found. Just be aware that having 'unseized' the cylinders - they may stat to leak now..

Re: MOT failure
thanks for that, i unsiezed the cyilinders in january when i first brought the car, but with only a couple of miles driving since then , they siezed up again, but this time i have gone for two new ones, so fingers crossed.
Re: MOT failure
Wise move. Always slacken back the handbrake cables, then adjust up the brakes on the snails, and then snug up the cables to put the handle where you like it.
