On the way home yesterday all was well until I pulled out from a junction and then couldn't get into 2nd gear. Neither could I get 3rd. 4th was OK. At one point though, I couldn't get into 1st either and had to pull away in 4th!
There seems to be a strange rattle coming from the gearbox.
Can select all four gears with the engine off but once the engine is running that's another matter entirely. Will go into 1st and pull away after a delay with a great big jerk and then have to go straight into 4th. Just get a terrible grinding trying to go into 2nd or 3rd.
Has anyone got any ideas as to what the problem could be?

Re: Gearbox problem
I'm afraid it sounds terminal...... You should drain the oil and see what comes out...... and then take the side plate off for a look inside. But I would also spend this evening looking for a good secondhand gearbox. Is it a smooth case 948 or a ribbed case 1098 ?

No Mike it's not the MM. It's the 1098 in the Traveller.
