hi all
just got my engine running for the forst time in 5 years but ive got no oil to the top of the engine!!!
ive had a thought as to what it could be but i thought id ask you guys first
i replased the shaft that the rockers run on but cannot remember if on the a series the oil delivery goes through this shaft. does it?
if its not this ten what else could it be, ive not disturbed the pump, or cam exept for fitting a duplex timing chain kit, oh and there is oil in the engine.
im about to go out now and see if ive got pressure at the filter, pressure sensor and pressure release (where is the presszure release valve on the a series?)
its a 1098 and as far as im aware its a 63 engine

how do you know there's no oil at the rockers?
Assuming that is the case - did you make sure you used all the parts in the correct place? The oil line comes throught the head through a rocker post and through a hole into the centre of the rocker shaft.
It is possible to use the parts in the wrong place so the oil can't get from the oilway to the inside of the rocker shaft.
If it's a general oil pressure problem - what did your oil pressure light do? The oil pressure switch and the relief valve are on the block slightly above the distributor.

just got in now for a quick glance at the haynes,
there is oil delivery at the pressure sensor for certain as i removed it and then swore as i got oil all over the floor.
I am going to go and check the pipe from the filter housing to the block and then if thats all clear the only thing i can think of is the shaft so it looks like thatll be coming out if all else fails
i took the rocker cover off to check i had circulation and all was not soaked in oil so i turned the engine over and still no joy
any tips for removing the rovker shaft with the engine in situ?

I think that DOOBRY has hit the nail on the head. You have
probably put the wrong rocker post over the small hole in the top
of the cylinder head through which the oil issues. the oil then
passes up this post and through a corresponding hole in the
rocker shaft,from there is circulates through the rocker shaft and
out of the various oiling holes. It is not usual practice but,since
you have only just re started the engine you may get away with
draining the water and then slackening all of the head nuts in the
right order until they are all slightly slack, you can then remove
the rocker assembly to find the problem. I hope you find that the
small oil hole in the cylinder head is not in line with the hole
in the rocker post. The pressure release valve on the A series
is to the rear of the dizzy, just below the oil pipe union which leads
to the filter. It is a large domed nut and you have to move the
starter motor flange away so that you can get a large socket on it.
It controls the maximum pressure and the length of the spring is
critical.(2"+55/64") or 72.63mm

I suggested the above because I assumed that you had only just
replaced the cylinder head and,of course, a new head gasket.
If the gasket is not new and has been there for many years then
I would advise going the whole hog and fitting a new one. Wouldn't
like to see you waste your time.
