Please help a young member in Scotland!

Hi guys,

One of the young members has broken down in Dalwhinnie, Scotland (I've looked at a map and it is apparently near nothing major?!) Is there anybody who can offer help to get him back on the road tonight?

I'll stay online and see if anybody has commented this by 8pm.

Apologies for this gung-ho approach to getting things fixed.

It's a long way from me..... Does the insurance not include roadside/recovery ? Most good classic car policies (ie RH) certainly do. What's the problem with the car?

The driver...haha, no!

I'm not too sure, but it sounds like when my coil died...although its never the coil ;)

Erm, he is the driver for a musician who is set to play a gig tonight so he can't afford to get towed home

But he can get towed to his 'destination' - not just 'home'. Is he not in AA/RAC/Green Flag etc ??

Far as I know he has the standard breakdown cover with FJ.

Reading on the young members facebook page he now has a free coil on its way from somewhere. Only just got home myself so unaware of the exact details.

What good will that do? It really is 'never' the coil...... although I do always carry a spare - just in case...... And I assume the FJ rescue scheme would also have taken the car on to it's destination - or home, at the driver's discretion?

He eventually got relayed home on no less than 4 breakdown recovery wagons.

I did mutter your well known words to him myself about it not being the coil and guess what... it wasn't! It was the distributor that was at fault.

Oh dear - always carry a complete spare KNOWN WORKING dizzy, and fuel pump, and head gasket, and of course a fan belt and rad hoses- and maybe even a coil just so you can confirm that's NOT the problem. These parts cost very little, take up little space (fit them around the spare wheel) and can save a whole lot of grief.......... 4 Rescue trucks... geeeeeez.
