Classic insurance for more than one car

Post by tysonn »

Just wondered if anyone has more than one classic on the same policy and the annual cost.Have been with Peter Taylor for quite a few years as they always gave great prices on my past RM Rileys. My Traveller is insured with them and I just enquired about adding the Minor convertible(which for some reason because its pre 1960 needs a seperate policy)and a Triumph Stag that I'm presently negotiating. They can add the Stag to the Traveller policy which will make it £220 per annum(with my 38 year old son as a named driver)plus the £89 for the Convertible. Will have a ring around on Monday to see if anyone can lump them all together for a better price.

Our other car is a 2009 Citroen C6 3.0 HDi a 'future classic' and far rarer than a Morris Minor!!

The 'moggie' has been replaced with another 'classic' a 1953 Citroen Traction Avant 11BL

+1 for RH. My 2 travellers cost me £95/yr. Both agreed values and unlimited mileage. Free breakdown cover too....

RH will be much less expensive - and they will add an extra vehicle just for the summer months when it is on the road if that is your wish.

I've always found RH to be friendly and efficient, and not to overcharge admin fees for vehicle changes.

I have been watching this thread as I have 1962 Fordson dexter (tractor) that I would like to get out now and again, problem is that for many years it was insured with the Co op for £34 per year which was very reasonable, regrettably I did not keep this going. The quotes I am now getting are £100+, not prepared to pay this as only drive about 20 miles per year on the road, I have asked RH for a multi car (well car/tractor) quote, keeping my fingers crossed!

The MMOC scheme with Footman James allows you to have multiple Minors. We have found the prices to be very reasonable - with three minors on one policy, there was no additional premium, and it was only around £100 to start with, including all the extras that we wanted. :D

Hi simmitc thanks for the reply. You state "only around £100 to start with".Does this mean its no longer this price and if not how long ago/how much now?
Thanks

A few years ago it was about £100, in the current year it has risen with inflation to about £104. Remember that everyone's needs vary, so you may get a higher or lower premium, depending on intended use, valuation, age, etc. I know that our Committee monitor the scheme, and whilst it may not be the cheapest for everyone, it is a very good scheme, and is particularly useful for younger drivers (which does not include me :o ).

Changed mine to RH, £83 for the minor, an extra £50 to add the Dexter when ready to do so. Paid £100 last year for the morris so saved a few quid.

I'm amazed that FJ were less expensive than RH - most folks seem to find quite the opposite. As for your Dexter - just add it for the few months you intend to use it - and take it off again when it's locked away out of use. RH are happy to do that, and as Ray says - no admin charges for doing so. :D
