When exactly did the bonnet emblem change from a plain strip to the posh shooting star/comet tail unit?
I am not sure whether Jethro is a very early Series Two or a very late Series MM.
When the cars changed from Series MM to Series 2 - so that would be in 1953. No Series MM was ever officially produced with the OHV 803 cc engine - they were all 918 cc sidevalve units as used in the Morris 8 and had the wavy long gearstick as opposed to the straight long gearstick of the S2. Whilst early Series 2's were produced alongside late Series MM's for a short while, from your other post about the oil leak, where you can see the edge of the tappet chest, it seems that you have a Series 2 with an OHV engine not an MM. What year is your car?
Jethro is from 1953 and has a 948cc engine No.9M-U-H-557031 although the registration document lists the car with an 803cc engine with a prefix letter K.
Not sure how old the present engine is or when it was fitted.
Runs very sweetly though and sounds great!
The Series MM bonnet badges continued on the LCVs.
There were no Series MMs with 803 engines as the only difference between the two was the engine and transmission and the bonnet badge.
As far as I am aware all the 1952 Series 2s were 4 door export cars so it is unlikely that there are any in this country, unless someone knows different
