Engine Conversion
Was looking to rebuild a Marina engine with my dad and the put in my minor and read here - http://www.mmoc.org.uk/index.php?page=339
That you can get a kit to help you with this? Is this as easy as ordering on a website? Can anyone tell me where i can get this from?
Thanks,
Edward

Re: Engine Conversion
There might be other suppliers but esm do both parts you need ( according to the article.. i thought you needed different front towers as well, but that might just be when fitting the marina box as well, which is kind of what i did)
the back plate (just in case the link does not work search for 10m002)

the fly wheel (10M001)

Re: Engine Conversion
Quite reasonably priced! I think i might just get a professional or an enthusiast to do the actual fitting though as it seems quite difficult, by the way did you change your rear axle?
Thanks,
Edward

Re: Engine Conversion
yes i changed engine, gearbox and rear axle.
if you are going to keep the moggy box i would keep the moggy axle.
fitting the engine to a minor box is not that different to swapping a 1098 for another 1098 once you have changed the back plate and sorted out the fan at the front all of which have been discussed on the forum plenty of times.. ( far better than relying on my memory ), if you are going to fit the marina box now that is a bit more involved.

Re: Engine Conversion
The backplate mentioned in the 'Tech Tips'
is for use with a Marina gearbox...... If using a Minor gearbox, the 1098 backplate is easily modified to fit.

Re: Engine Conversion
5 speed box may be a waste of money. I suppose it depends on 4 speed gear ratios but when I had the Austin Allegro 1300 (4spd 1275cc) it cruised happily all day at 65+. Quoted top speed was 84 but I never pushed it that far... was still a very comfortable mileage maker if it wasn't for the steering needing to be corrected all the time.

Re: Engine Conversion
incorrect. the special type 9 bellhousing fits directly onto the 1098 or midget 1275 backplate. if you wanted to fit a marina engine and a type 9, then you'd need a modified 1098 backplate, or a midget one, just like if you were fitting a 1098 moggy box.bmcecosse wrote:Oh well -you need the special type 9 backplate.......
