How to Get a Double Bass into a Morris Minor

My daughter studies music at college and had the task of recording her friend's double bass.
Trouble was, her friend had no transport on the day and college's own instrument is decidedly ropey.
Rachael drives a 2 door Minor 1000 - not an obvious choice for moving a double bass.
But, with a bit of lateral thinking, the two 17 year old girls came up with a plan -[frame][/frame]
Has anybody else carried unusual loads?

i've had a 1098 engine in the space where the passenger seat was, with a freind i n the back seat, and the passenger seat sitting next to her

Every problem can be overcome! I had a grandfather clock in the traveller last week and I once mangaed to fit an old china cabinet into a saloon that was too cheap not to buy, my Mum didnt have a particularly comfrtable journey home that day......

Fold the rear seat back and the front passenger seat forward. I have fitted a contra bassoon in my Series MM

I've twice had motorcycles in the back of Minor saloons, partially dismantled. Not small ones either - a Jawa 350 and a Suzuki GN400. I did have to remove all the seats bar the driver's, and even then I had to drive with it tilted forwards a little. The thought of a crash with that sort of cargo on-board was distinctly unappealing .

I once drove a whole fitted kitchen, including the sink and drainer, down from Chingford to Gillingham in a Hillman Imp.

I took the passenger seat out, and opened the back window, of course: and I pushed the driver's seat as far forward as possible.

I'm 6' 1", by the way... or at least I was when I started that journey. I was 5' 10" when I arrived!

Once upon a time I transported gf + her double bass around a few places.
It did fit more easily in her parent's Punto than in the Minor, but the Minor can be very versatile... a folding passenger seat helps for large loads - and for rear seat access in general.

Our Son has got his whole drumkit (including a 22" base drum) into his 4dr, then added his guitar in it's flight case! and I've transported a double bed setee in my Traveller. Amazingly versatile cars these Minors

I have carried a dismantled single bed with mattress in a 2 door Minor once. Also an MGB rear axle was a nice fit with the back seat removed..

I did a car boot in the traveller in the summer, 4 folding tables, 16 full boxes in the back and stacked on the front seat! When I had set up most people thought a van had dropped it all off!

I went to B &Q for a bag of concrete today, thought I would get some soil as well. I ended up taking out the base of the back seat for 7 bags of soil and the concrete in the boot, amazing what you can manage for a special offer.........
