Sealant between front wing and inner

I have removed the front wings as they needed welded repairs at their lower edges.Should there be sealant of any sort between the wings and the body when I come to refit them?I am thinking especially along the upper join as its noticeable.If they used dumdum I expect it will need painting over afterwards to hide the black edge?

It should be a rubber gasket, not a paste.

The usual suppliers stock them and there are some on eBay

Sorry,a rubber gasket between the outer wing and inner flitch/wing?Certainly found no mention of this in the Bull Motif catalogue or any sign of an old one when I removed the wing.

Depends on the age of the car and how near to original you want to be. MM's and Early S2's had wing piping on the front wings between the inner wing panel and the wing itself, as well as the rear wings. These were body colour. The practice was discontinued by the time the 1000's came out so for these, it is just metal to metal contact.

Nothing to stop you fitting piping to the front wings but make sure the drainage channels are clear. I always fill in the horizontal seam into the headlights

Yes - good point Mike - essential that the drain holes are clear. The early wings without the seam near to the headlamp were a much better design than the later, cheaper ones.
