Exhaust heat shield
It was no surprise to see that the old floor mounted exhaust heat shield had rotted out. But I just wondered - how necessary is this shield? Could it be argued that leaving it out would allow exhaust heat to dissipate easier than a shield which could help to conduct extra heat through the shield casing?

leave it off ,it was the only place on the floor of my 55 that showed any sign of rusting, its difficult to renew the undercoating with it on,Iv'e not noticed any difference with it off mine.
