The Green /Purple wire relates to the rear stop lights.
It's come off the spade connection at the junction of the brake lines.
Look into the engine bay, left hand side, below radiator height, you will see brake pipes ( 3 ) comming together at a junction.Sticking up is a nut with an electrical spade connection ( vertical ).Pop it back on and the brake lights should work again !
If there is a wire already attached at the sender...report back again.

Re: Water pump gasket
Hi Bob,
Have just checked, wire for break lightsis already connected to sender so can only assume it was for some other accessory item that has been removed. Can see no other obvious place for it to go!
New rad should arrive Monday so will try to get it in and get car started before I disappear to Mallorca for a few days.

Re: Water pump gasket
The brake light circuit is the only green/purple wire, green to switch, green/purple switch to lights. Have you checked that the brake lights are working?
Oil filter light is green/yellow.

A few years flapping about in the engine bay - the yellow will soon look like purple.......

Re: Water pump gasket
Hi Folks,
Well all back together and RUNNING WELL
new rad in, new water pump in and NO leaks yet!!
New fan belt fitted (not too tight)
The none start was due to a broken posative earth battery terminal connection. Someone had tried to fit a terminal that was too small for the lug and on tightening it had cracked therefore a very loose connection.
No home for the spare green and purple wire though and nothing seems missing, can only think it was for a past accessory!
Anyway she is back on the road, all we need now is some dry sunny weather.
Thanks again to all who gave their advise.
