Running problem
It feels as though my engine is struggling when I am doing above 40 (or possibly it is more noticeable when it is doing that speed or more). I can get the car to do 60 (eventually), but it does feel a struggle. Are there any obvious parts that I can check/replace to fix this. I am assuming it is electrical, but it might not be. I am trying to steer away from replacing everything with new bits if the old bits are still running ok.

Re: Running problem
Are you mean your engine not powerful ? yes , you must check air filter and check all sparking plug and tell us
Re: Running problem
I have a 1300 engine in the car. Supposedly this has only done 5000 miles since a rebuild. Air filter is not standard. It is a petrol washable one that has been fitted. This is clean though.
Changed the spark plugs and other electrics over the weekend other than the points. Have not changed these as I can't really tell what the distributor model is and so I am not too sure what the gaps ought to be. There are some numbers printed on the rim of the distributor, but it is hard to see any other distunguishing marks.

Re: Running problem
how do I tell ?
It is a single carb
It is a single carb
Re: Running problem
Well - if it's the original small carb - it will be choking the engine quite badly. A picture - or is there an ID tab on the carb? Or failing that - measure the diameter of the carb intake hole.......

Re: Running problem
ok leave it with me, I will have a look at things when it has stopped raining.

Re: Running problem
If your engine slow ' you have to check this 10 - 1. check Fuel supply and Carburetor 2. Sparking plugs and correct order 3.contact point gap 4. Electrical loose connection 5. air filter 6. engine oil 7. break binding 8. clutch adjustment and return spring 9.differential 10. clutch and presser plates
Re: Running problem
Good point Sandun - maybe the clutch is slipping. Although I doubt it will be the differential.......

Re: Running problem
Changed leads, cap and plugs. Seems to be a lot better now, so thanks for all your advice
