if theres one thing i hate about old cars compared to modern apart from drum brakes :evil: its underpowered heaters,my heater in my van could not blow a mouse fart away let alone demist an icey screen.you would think by now that someone would have come up with a direct replacement motor/system for the minor?i was thinking of getting one of those ceramic mini blow heaters but feedback from ebay buyers was not good,any tips? :wink:

you would think by now that someone would have come up with a direct replacement motor/system for the minor

They have... You can buy an uprated Mini heater which has two speeds (uprated to be quick and fast) and a more efficient core. It's expensive, however. Also, changing the thermostat would help, and blanking off part of the huge radiator could do something to help.

That or a nice garage. ;)

The Birmingham centre sell them as a kit, they advertise on the back of the club mag.

Have you tried cleaning it? my heater is remarkably improved since I flushed the matrix and de-fuzzed it!

If you are using the late type of Minor heater, with the lever marked
off,car,screen, then disconnect the elephant trunk air inlet at the
heater, stuff something down the trunk to stop cold air coming in
and leave the heater to draw air from inside the car. The improvement
is quite marked.

Ceramic heaters are rubbish !!
I now enjoy complete and fast screen demisting and although I have a single speed heater from a late mini, the biggest improvement came about when I moved the actual blowers forward a bit. On either side of the dash just in front of them vents are two screws, undo them and the bit I called the blowers will fall off. I shortened the two mounting lugs by about 8 mm, drilled some new holes and put it all back together. The job was not so big for me at the time because the windscreen was out and I had no gloveboxes fitted. well worth the effort though and I can actually feel the warm air blowing through whereas I couldnt before....and all for free..

thankyou for your help,i will be trying a few of your tips,ive also got a 2 door 67 coming saterday that is good running order but very rotten which is fitted with minor heater but with some euro box internals and three speed fan so i will look into that!anyone need any bits off this car please get in touch,cars in hertfordshire :wink:

Ooooh - erm... so you won't need the boot bits??? ... I really need to find a spare boot lock... erm...and if it's in good condition, boot lid??? (Hebe's bottom strip has started to go so... *looks all sweet and helpless and bats eyelids...*

Yes, that reminds me of Jane_b's car, Blossom (anyone remember that one?). I told her she had beautiful chassis legs but that her rear end needed some serious attention.......... she just looked sideways at me......... :lol:

Hmm... I remember Jane telling me that I was wrong to say that every cheap moggie invariably needed a lot of work doing to it, because she had got a perfect example for £600. Turns out that her car needed structural welding & various replacement mechanical parts soon after purchase :roll: so it looks like I was proved right! Any idea why she got rid of the car?

Well, if you remember (at the start), she was unsure if getting a Moggy or a Beetle was the right thing to do and we convinced her to get a Moggy. I think she must have got bored with it as the novelty wore off. She said she was getting a Cortina MK2 when I last spoke to her, but I don't know if she did or not. I don't know if she sold the Moggy either! I was a bit narked by that as I said I would only help her with it and repair it if she PROMISED not to sell the car......... so I did the work and she sold it......... that's life I guess :-?

Chris, it really needed the boot floor replacing (which I patched), the O/S sill rear replacing (which was badly MOT patched by the MOT place), the rear boot area valance replacing (which I did). The front brakes replacing (which never happend), the clutch pedal shaft replacing (which I did), indicator stalk & flasher replacing (which I did using bits from my own Moggy). Engine tie bar putting on (which I bought from a rally for her).

She wanted £800 for it at the end if I remember, so after my repairs she wanted to make £200 profit!! Nice!!

Hmmmm.......... I think I'll stop now as I'm starting to get annoyed............

A Concorde? Sadly my garden isn't 203 ft long - god knows how many moggies you could store in that kind of space! :o

However there will be a Concorde at Brooklands next Spring - it might even be in one piece! :D http://www.brooklandsconcorde.com/

By the way, I'm not a baggage handler at Thiefrow! And there must be other dodgy professions locally like, errr... estate agents, used car salesmen and BT telephone engineers :wink:
