New Owner

Post by Monster_Moggy »

Hello,
I have recently purchased a Morris pickup and I am planning on restoring it.
The problem I have is that to send of for the log book I need to find the VIN number. I have looked all over the chassis and engine bay and cannont find it anywhere.
My number plate is OEG98F.
Could anyone tell me if there is a database with the VIN numbers, or if there is places that I would have missed when looking for the number.
Thanks

Technically, it won't have a modern 17 character VIN number, since they only became standardised in the early Eighties, but its chassis number would be in the upper horizontal part of the radiator shroud, between the radiator and the wing panel.

There should be a chassis plate on the engine compartment bulkhead, or four holes where the fixing screws were. You may find the chassis no. stamped into the bulkhead near the speedo cable. That is as near as you will get to a VIN on a Minor.
Since the chassis no was allocated at the factory and the reg. plate was issued by the dealer their is no relationship between the two, especially as reg. nos are often sold on to different cars.

Do you have a cab number for it?!

You don't need a visable chassis number for pre-'78? vehicles - check dvla site!
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

Thanks for the replies!

I do indeed have some holes where the chassis plate 'should' be!

I've found a 6 digit number on the rad shroud and i'll have a look by the speedo cable tonight!

Any ideas where the cab number would be?

Cheers

Cab nos plate at the top of the n/s engine bay b/head - thin strip fixed by 2 self tapping screws.
