Mayonnaise in air "breather"

Post by oddbod »

Hiya, beautiful weather here,if a bit parky. Just wondering,as its my first time, the small metal pipe that goes from the top of the engine to the air filter, via a rubber tube, is blocked with 'mayonnaise' do I clean it out by shoving something down it? Also the bit that it connects on to the air filter body is blocked,I am guessing this should be clear? I am just starting so dont be too harsh!!

Clean it all out - and wipe clean the inside of the rocker cover. The air filter may be covered in gunge too. Very important that the pipes are kept clear....

:D Done it,after I posted I realised that any thing that was meant to breathe should. I also re-gapped the spark plugs, though I got a metric set cos thats all that was available. .60 .65 mm seems to fall between 0.0025". But the Moggie seems to run better anyway!! ( Wishful thinking?) Reset front brakes and greased up suspension and steering. Am I right in thinking that there are 3 grease nipples on each side? Thats all we ( me and 1 teenager) could see.

2 1/2 thou is far too tight - I think you mean 0.025" = 25 thou.... and yes - that will be 0.65mm. Yes 3 nipples there unless the track rod end also has one. Also prop shaft and handbrake cables to be greased........

Yep, I did mean 25 thousandths, sorry for my typo. Later this week I have some willing helpers to jack the Moggie and put it on axle stands and grease front to back while I investigate loosening the fuel tank before welding! I will remove the rocker cover and clean inside before next weekend as my boy seem more willing to get their hands dirty when a driving lesson is offered for finishing a job. Its nice to do stuff together again with them as they have been busy doing their own thing for a while and this Moggie project has got us all interested in something we can all contribute to. :D
