1969 Minor, North Devon.

Hi Everyone!
First Post, (Please don't bite if we do something wrong)

A couple of years ago me and my son started our minor project. She's a Devon car and from the state of her she would probably make a better donor car, but the idea is to get her on the road and use her casually as she will be my sons first proper car and he can drive her to college.

She was brought of a friend mine who had had her stored in his garage for years, since his niece moved to India and left her minor behind! So we picked her up for a bargain! (£200)

The bad side, underneath she's quite bad, the doors sag down by at least and inch, brakes were solid, fairly nasty smell inside, paint work is bad.

Good side, She just needed sparks cleaned and jumping, all the electrics seem to work, she apparently was restored in 1992 and has had 36000 on the clock.



So far we have welded jacking points both sides and rear inner arches, replaced lights, new brakes all round (sticking to the drums), and new locks!

Well anyway, I will upload more pictures soon, thank you for reading and if you have any nice suggestions or tips let us know.

I have suspicions that she might of been converted to unleaded when she was restored before, but we have hardly any history.
no engine number either

She's running rich with additive then chokes up with coke! I've cleaned the sparks and repeat, any ideas?

Lack of an engine number may imply the engine has been changed out for one of the same type, but from a different car. I say this because my Mog's original 948cc engine is lost to time -- and when it became unusable, an intrepid former owner yoinked a 948 from an MG Midget and put it in Mog.
I had no idea it was "wrong" for ages, except that the engine number on the actual engine was ground off, and the original engine number plate was retained in spare parts. The only way I found out is because the head had the wrong serial number for a Minor engine!

Sort of useless, as I understand it, to have an unleaded conversion done -- like Roy says, just set the valve gaps to forty thou or some other thou. Of course, if there's been an unleaded conversion, there's a different head -- so it may be the right engine but they didn't bother to put the old engine number plate on the new head!

Thanks, That sounds about right the engine has defiantly been changed, I guess I will just have to a poke around see if our serial is any different, Wishful thinking for an unleaded conversion haha

The "unleaded conversion" may not have amounted to any more than some shotgun pellets dropped down the filler neck.
Unless you plan to hammer it up and down the motorways I wouldn't lose any sleep about it.

Update Time,

She's needed a full new brake system which wasn't fun to fit! I've also fitted an Alternator, Leccy Iginition, new distributor and I've got some other things to do but they are just cosmetic new headlining, window seals and I want to fit some deadlocks to the doors, otherwise the contents is going to get nicked!
