Re: Pickup restoration part three
is that a new old stock cylinder or did you just replace the seals and re-use the old one?

Re: Pickup restoration part three
It's a brand new, maybe original old stock, but unused anyway, master cylinder, trouble is, I re-used the old bolt to banjo connection at the back of it. This is my problem, it failed to provide a seal, there never was a leak at the front, just fluid flowing down the inside of the front chassis leg, to drip out at the front making me think the front connections were weeping.
Ive tightend the connectors and this narrowed my search down to this, as I pump the brake, the fluid can be seen escaping.
Just renew the rear banjo bolt and I hopefully will solve my problem.[frame]

make sure you re-anneal trhe copper washers before re-fitting. copper workl hardens, so without ther annealing process it won't seal.

Re: Pickup restoration part three
Good advice matt, there has been no hydraulic fluid leak in the 24 hours since my last motor up the drive and emergency stop. Great now on with the next items on the list, Lights, indicators, wipers, horn and clock illumination.[frame]

Re: Pickup restoration part three
Thanks Staffs, Once the MOT is out of the way ,hopefully next week, I'm looking forward to adding the sound deadening kit, carpets, plain chrome hubcaps to the wider wheels and new tyres, the spare wheel mounted on the back of the cab, cab ceiling headsheet and something to keep the rain out the back. Maybe later on a Alternator from ESM if the dynamo isn't putting power back in the battery after a long run.[frame]

Re: Pickup restoration part three
well a last minute check of the clutch showed some adjustment was needed, there was nil return pressure on the pedal, until I found that a retaining bolt had come loose, fresh bolt screwed in and we're go, well, now the battery needs a top up...[frame]

That was exhilerating, driving something that sounds Historic from the gearbox whine to the exhaust note, absolutley brilliant. I'm a very proud owner. Now then, just one more bleeding session on the brakes and we're nearly there.[frame]

David
Did you manage to sort out the electrical problems in your spare time ( you know the hours and hours, during a restoration when you don't actually do very much !! ) ?

Re: Pickup restoration part three
Hi Bob, problems, problems, but only temporary problems, nothing insurmountable, The Pickup needs two new front wheel bearings, a new oil pressure switch and a wiper rack, this one seems too short by a few inches. Slight glitches to sort before I get my hands on an MOT.[frame]

Re: Pickup restoration part three
The new front wheel bearing set and oil pressure switch from ESM, the garage's usual supplier would have cost £40 per bearing set, at £14,75 from ESM and £3.50 for the switch, parts price and availability for Minors is a head turner. Charles ware is sending on a wiper rack mid week, so I'll be up and running before too long.[frame]

David
I shed real tears when I compare the cost of my pal's Minor parts to my classic car equivalent. He has often found me sitting in the corner of his garage, staring at ESM's price list and repeating the phrase " I cannot believe it !! ".
We're going to finish off his saloon very soon, ready for the Spring. His recent house move put the Restoration on hold.

make sure you get the bearings round the right way, and check for any slop before puting them on
