window stuck

the passenger side window on my morris has decided not to move and is stuck in the fully up position.The handle just won't budge, no play in it at all, and i wondered if this might be a simple one to fix, or more complicated potentially.

Take the door card of and have a look at what has happened, chances are it will be obvious.
You should be able to remove the winder mechanism if need be.

Try banging the window..... You may need to take the door card off to see if the winder has gone over the top...... At least it's shut - not lying wide open.....

I had this problem once. Turned out that the felt in the window channel had shifted and had formed a ridge which jammed the window shut. Might be worth a look?

That happened to me once. I had been driving round for a few weeks with the driver's window stuck closed. One morning I lost my patience with it and gave the top of the frame a tap. Three guesses what happened then!

there doesn't seem to be an issue with the felt surrounding the window, or anything to suggest around that area that the glass is stuck. i removed the covering, and inside there's a wettish load of something that resembles loft insulation and polystyrene (for insulation i guess) which has collapsed and is pretty useless, and a split black rubber seal hanging loose, but again doesnt appear to be connected to the window winder being stuck. that won't budge at all. so not sure what to do next, appart from having a mechanic look at it.
one more problem i found this morning with the driver's door. it wasn't shutting properly, and towards the bottom there is a short hinge type connector, with two screws, and the bottom one had come adrift. i tried to screw it back without success, and switched screws to make sure they were both ok, which they were. the trouble appears to be with the bottom screw that it has no thread to connect to, and won't screw in. any thoughts?

Now you have the door card off you can remove the winder mechanism if need be, is there any movement at the handle at all?
It may be worth taking the card off the other door to take the rubbish out and to see how it should work.

went in for an MOT on tuesday (failed, but not too serious) and the mechanic said the window winder would turn a little bit but was very stiff, and the mechanism might need lubing/greasing. so will have a go at that to see if it loosens it up. does anyone know, by the way, whether the area between the door card and the metal is stuffed/insulated? i found a wet soggy mess when i removed the door card, and don't know whether the insulation is standard or a previous owner's addition.

It is a previous owner's addition, the only thing behind the door cars as standard was some polythene type plastic stuck over the large holes.

I would think, if one were going to add insulation/soundproofing to the doors, one'd get some waterproof stuff -- or at least place the water barrier on the door before placing the insulation! Silly former owner!

actually, i think he did. there was some evidence of some polythene type outer covering along with the rest of the soggy mess of loft insulation type stuffing i pulled out, but i guess it sprang a leak at some stage and the whole lot gradually fell apart.
