Valve size

Post by Arthurdaily »

Hi, I'm going to fit my own tyres! Exciting... a chap is showing me how to do it, I have bought the tyres but need new valves - can anybody tell me what SIZE valves I need for standard late Minor rims? I think I need the diamater of the hole (haven't taken old valves out yet for obvious-still-on-car reasons, and also the length in total.

Thanks!! :D

Don't forget that you need to balance the wheels as well.

Yes, once I have taken the old tyres off, properly cleaned and painted 'em and replaced valves and tyres I needs to get them balanced AND get the tracking done...

It never ends lol

If you go to your local tyre depot they will fit your tyres with new valves and balance them for about a tenner a wheel.
It is easy enough to remove old tyres but fitting without damaging your newly painted rims will be difficult.

Very easy to fit new tyres - the hard bit is getting the hard old tyres off! And just lay the wheels down on a couple of old blankets to protect the paint - and just ease the new tyres over the rims. Standard valves - 20p each at autojumbles. Oh -and a tin of Swarfega is handy.......

Not forgetting that you have to pay for the disposal of the old tyres.

You can leave tyres at recycling centre... well you can in Stockport anyway...

Are the valves, then, just standard size or is there a special one for Morris rims?
