pressure relief valve stuck closed.

Post by oldmod1968 »

Hi, My midget engine has been running with a 65/70 PSI pressure even on tick over, it does go up a bit when increasing speed so I am sure the gauge is ok . I thought it was the oil cooler keeping oil to cold so I removed the item to give better access in the bay (too many hoses and all in the way) and hoped the pressure would move around a little more. Anyway there was no change so I though I ought to check the pressure relief valve. Well got the cap and spring out (measures about 2 and three quarter inches) but the piston looks jammed. It certainly won't move with my finger and seems very solid. With the limited access has anyone got any ideas on how to remove it?

Another question. If I fit my spare 1275 engine in the morris will it increase the premium. I do qualify as an old fart so hope it won't!

thanks

65-70psi seems alright to me, that is what I get on my Series MM, I wish I got that on my 1275.The spring is just about impossibe to depress with your fingers. You need to put a pencil or similar down the middle of the spring and pull it out. It is even more difficult to replace
I added my 1275 Traveller to my Series MM policy and it did not increase the premium

Your pressure is perfect - why would you think the relief valve is stuck???????????

Hi, I got the piston out and it looked OK and was in good condition so is it possible that the pressure would not drop at tick over and remain at 50 or 60 psi?

With a cold engine - yes - but whatever the reason - the relief valve has absolutely nothing to do with it! I would be more worried about the accuracy of the gauge........

That is the trouble with gauges, they give you something to worry about. No gauge - no worry
