clutch fork gaiter

Post by dalgrae »

I need to replace the gaiter on the clutch fork , to do this I thought I would release the split pin end of the relay shaft rod and slide the gaiter up the shaft and over the adjuster part then down the clutch fork to then fit the gaiter to the g/box casing hole .Doing it ths way I do not disturb the screwed part of the relay rod as the adjustments are correct , I intend also to fit a new spring to the clutch fork to bell housing .Is there anything I need to be aware of doing it this way or is there an easier way.

Should be fine provided the graphite bearing is secured to the fork with clips -I have removed a box in the past to find the bearing just sitting in the fork - no clips !

Thanks for the advice ,doing it the way I propose I intend to leave the return spring on until the last moment , having got the gaiter onto the relay shaft I will reconnect it and then remove the spring still trying to keep some tension on the clutch arm as soon as I am over the spring location I will reconnect the new spring so hopefully all will be fine

Nothing should happen if you remove the return spring and the rod.
Adjusting the clutch mechanism amounts to making sure there is some free play in it when the job is finished, about half an inch.
You don't need a micrometer or a feeler gauge.
