Light switch stuck

Post by Edward92 »

My light switch has stuck so the sidelights are stuck on so i have had to disconnect my battery to prevent it from just sitting and draining itself, would it be as simple as prising the little pull switch off with a small screw driver and giving it some oil/lube to get it fixed?

Cheers, Eddie

Maybe too obvious, but you do know that the switch knob needs to turn slightly between side and head light positions as well as pulling out?

Hopefully the " stuck " nature of your problem may just be down to " years of accumulated dirt ".
A squirt of WD40 , with an old rag held underneath the switch ( in situ if you're lucky ), maybe enough to free it up.Work it through the different positions and apply more WD40.
Otherwise it is removal of the switch, noting with labels/ photo the wiring positions, inspection , repeat the above on the bench and if no joy ,then replacement of the switch.
The majority of times however it is just dirt.

Thanks! The WD40 method worked for me after a few sprays :) However now my dash light doesn't seem to be working  could this simply be a knocked connection when i fixed my headlight the other day and how easy is it too access? Also is it linked with the fuel guage as that has seemed dodgy,

Again, stating the obvious, has the little switch under the dash been turned off?

Yeah, I have tried flicking it on/off a few times but no luck, also does the switch actually turn the entire thing on/off or is it just the light?

Managed to fix it; The fuse was loose and taking it out and putting it back sorted it :D

Just read your comment about the fuel guage.Should now be under the " electrical section " I guess.

Suggest it is probably a dirty connection/ bad earth perhaps.disconnect the battery and have a rumage in the boot floor.
Remove the sender guage spade terminal, clean with a bit of emery paper and replace.Check over the earth fixing...sound
wiring good body contact, etc.Reconnect battery and see if that makes any difference.
If not, the next in line is the connection at the fuel guage/ back of the speedo. It connects up to the voltage stabiliser so check all those connections whilst the battery is disconnected and you've got access. If still no joy report back to base
