My Daily Driver

Post by PhilR »

Hi all.
Thought I'd share a couple of pics of my saloon which I purchased last yeat and is the stablemate to my Traveller.
It's covered a genuine 53000 miles from new and I am the second owner. The car came with a small trailer which the first owner used to take garden cuttings to the tip! The car is unrestored and save for the four wings which were replaced in the 80's, the paintwork is totally original, even down to the pinstripe. The original owner was an enthusiast and detailed every gallon of fuel that was put in the car from new. I am using it as my daily driver and have been gradually improving it since purchased. So far I've rust protected the underside and box sections, overhauled the brakes, fitted new copper pipes, an alternator, replaced the seat cushions and straps (although the rest of the interior is as new and even the carpets are original), fitted new tyres, replaced the door tops with stainless steel items, and fitted an anti-theft switch.
I've still got plenty to do and the paint could do with another cut-back in places. The engine runs like a sewing machine. I now look forward to driving to work!

Looks great -and i hope you are continuing the fuel log? Can you tell us - what has been the overall fuel consumption from new - and what are you getting at the moment?

I've been trying to continue the log. I've been getting approx. 38mpg combined. I drive it approx. 30 miles per day to work mainly on B roads into Bath but I do get a caught in a bit of traffic. It also gets used at weekends to ferry the family around locally.
I haven't thought about working out what the MPG was from the fuel logs, but will work it out and post the results! What is clear though is how much petrol has shot up in price in 40 years!!

38 is very good. I just thought it would be interesting to see how the consumption ran over all the years....
