rear brake cylinder

Post by paul42mill »

Hi Chaps.
Yet another conundrem that will prob be explained by the experts.
Bought some new rubbers for rear brake sylenders, kit comes in three parts.
I know the smll ring is the piston seal, and the large boot is the cover for the rear, but what is the thicker ring for??
Also my sylenders had no spring inside them, do they need this??
Dont think "Sylender" is the correct spelling, appoligies for this.
Any thoughts.

Changed the spelling for you...

There are different seal designs - make sure you have the correct one..

Normally the thin ring is just a dust seal around the lower half of the piston (the part the handbrake pushes on).
The bigger one is the hydraulic seal. This part of the piston can only be removed when the handbrake lever is removed.

Hope you got the correct seal kit for the age of your car....... http://www.moss-europe.co.uk/Shop/ViewP ... exID=17088 As Ray points out - the large rubber IS the hydraulic seal.
