Where do I get Spray paint???

Post by fFrog »

I need to touch up the paintwork on my '64 Saloon. Where can I buy smoke grey(?) colour paint in spray can form? And does anyone know what price I should be looking at?
Cheers fFrog

Most of the main Minor parts suppliers sell this - ESM, Bull Motif, Birmingham Morris Minor Centre, Charles Ware etc. Prices will probably be similar but check out their websites for exact pricing. Alternatively most auto paint suppliers should be able to mix you up a quantity if you provide them with the paint code - BU15

I got nice big can from Tom Roy, and it wasn't expensive - and it sprays really nicely. Top tip - heat the can in pail of hot water before use.
Edited to change 'boiling water' to 'hot water' after H &S worries expressed.......

I would be very wary of heating a spray can in boiling water!! What would the health and safety have to say about that?

If all else fails i've bought toch up spray cans from Halfords. I've given them the paint code for my fathers 54 series II and they came up trumps mixing it to almost matching. bit on hte expensive side at £13 @ 0.25 of a litre.

Declan Roy meant just heat it up by placing in a bucket of hot water :o not boiling it he saves that for steam engines

The hotter the better! but I agree - perhaps not quite boiling, although I do use a kettle for the job. It soon cools down - especially if you have two or three cans in there. And it sprays SO much better. Obviously the cans when they come out must be cool enough to hold safely. The spray action also cools them down very quickly - and so a couple of cans same colour used for a short time each and then popped back in the water while you use the second can works well for me.....

Roy,
Just concerned. I know exactly what you mean but there are others who might take "boiling" literally. I thoroughly agree-the warmer the better. Gently warming the panel to be sprayed with a hot air gun also helps -especially in this weather.

As already said, most auto factors, some spares shops can mix you a batch and make a spray can

Better ones will even use a colour swatch or spectrometer to allow for fading etc.

I paid £10 for a 400ml can from my local shop who made it up whilst I waited.

That's a good price for a 400 ml can - can you share the name of the shop with us ?
