I would like to convert my 1100cc engine cylinder head for unleaded petrol
and have scoured the scrappies unsucessfully for a Metro head after reading an article in the minorsite. I don't think that a Metro 1.1 A series was produced. Would it be possible to fit a 1000 or 1300 head to the 1100 engine.

Well I'm told the 1000 metro head has the same size valves as our 1100 moggies so is pritty much the same but I don't know for sure, cheap aswell. The 1300 head has got bigger valves but they do hang over the piston bore and can smack on the top of the block so NOT a good move. Either way you probably wont get the bypass conection between head and water pump. You will need the later A+ metros head for it be unleaded, after G or H reg I think are unleaded.

Up to 1990/91 they had the A-series engine. After that, they used the K-series engine which is totally different. If you can see the bonnet, then if there are black bonnet vents, then it's the later ones.
Our G reg metro is unleaded. The capacity is 998cc.

If you use the late Metro head, then you will have to redo the plumbing, the the Metro has no bypass hose from the head to the water pump. So you would have to use the later Metro water pump with no bypass hose takeoff.
It also has an extra piece under the thermostat housing for the heater take off which might make connection to the Moggy radiator a bit awkward (too high up). It also has no rear heater take off (the casting is not drilled out). But if you remove this extra housing and drill the rear takeoff out, then you can connect a heater (but it would be on all the time) you could not reconnect the shut off valve, because as there is no bypass hose the water would not be able to circulate and it would overheat.
It might be better to have your (or another good) Moggy head fitted with hardened valve seats - it would certainly look better under the bonnet.
