Car write off (ford focus)

Post by iandromiskin »

I has a bit, well a big, bang in my everyday car this morning and if it's not a write off I'd say the insurance will just pay me for it as it's 2002 and not worth spending repair money on.

Question - should I try and buy another modern car or spend money on my green four door, get seat belts, heater , radio etc) and just drive it ? Only thing is classic insurance only allows you to drive up to 6000 miles a year. This car must be able to take a two year old around too, donut gas to be safe!!

I know there must be loads of people who use their moggie as an everyday car so just looking for advice.

Sorry to hear about your accident.

I've got Footman James insurance on my modified Anglia van, with unlimited mileage and breakdown cover for only £170. I couldn't use it every day though because it doesn't have a heater!

Spend the write-off money on a set of fade free discs and some seat belts! No mileage limit on mine with Footman James, I use it as a reliable everyday hack, and your daughter will love the Kudos when you start taking her to pre-school in it!

Hang onto the cash, fit the seatbelts and try it for a month. If it proves a bit impractical for your everyday needs, purchase a modern. :D

I have all the bits - front and rear belts and a late minor heater. Just need the time to fit them, do a little minor (no pun) welding and respray some panels. I even have some disc brakes I can takeoff another car (resto) at a later date.

I might try it, if I get the time to fit the bits. It's just the limited mileage insurance thing in Ireland :-(

I had my minor with AXA as an ordinary car as my mileage could have been higher than limit for classic insurance the insurance was not much different to classic insurance ask your insurance co to quote you and compare the price
