big end bearings

each journal (Where the big ends fit onto the crank shaft) if you can get a caliper just slide the caliper across the journals one horizontal and one vertically and post up the different readings.You may be lucky that they are within acceptable wear tolerences.What you need to understand is that the faces of the journals wear as well as the shells,not as quickly but they do. and after 150.000 miles are likely to have been worn into an egg shape,this causes the new shells to wear out very quickly.They will have worn after that sort of milage and if still round may still need attention since the gap between the crank shaft and std shells may be too big .This lets oil past the shells and drops the oil pressure again thing to avoid,it also allows the big end to move up and down slightly at each power stroke,which is obviously not good for the shells since it has a hammer effect. The ideal is where the journals are round and the gap is within acceptable tolerences so that the shells and journals have a pressurised cushion of oil between them.Then it may last another 150.00 miles good luck

hello all i have put the bearings in i have torqued them down put it all back togther and to fine no rattle from the engine no major oil leak yet but the problem was i was running the bearings in i put antifreze in the radiator and it all bubbled up it looked like soapy water and it was everywhere.but i have put radweld in the radiator so could this be the cause

but i dint change the oil pump it seems fine so no point in change ing it

Was it the original 3 lobe type - or the much better 5 lobe type ?

i dont know i dint even know where the oil pump was so i just left it but its working fine

why have you put radweld in rad,did it have a leak before the rebuild,have you had the cylinder head off ,was it overheating before the rebuild or using a lot of water,was there water in the rad before you started the engine or did you fill it up after getting it started as it was running need a bit more information to go any further.

You say earlier 'the oil pump is fine' -and now you tell me you don't know where it is - so you obviously didn't inspect it........ I give up - the oil pump WILL be well worn especially if it is the older 3 lobe type - it should have been renewed - madness to not at least inspect it. As for the rad weld - look forward to overheating come the better weather.
