Re: oil filter
Surely the simplest spin-on conversion is from an A-Series Mini in a breakers yard? ~£5?? Or eBay? There's a new one being sold for £21 - Item number: 320802267177. Often there are s/hand ones as well. Just need a couple of 3/8" x 1" long UNC bolts to secure it to the block (it is UNC on a 1275 block, is it the same for 948/1098?). Use the original pipe fittings and a new filter.

Re: oil filter
Yes - the Mini one is perfect and yes UNC in the block. beware the feed pipe is very fragile/easily twisted and needs careful handling/tightening. Quite hard to find Minis in the scrappy these days......

Re: oil filter
I am used to the old filter now and judging by the threads in the block and their age will stick with it. ;)
