Outdoor car cover for a Traveller

Dear All,

I'm planning on laying up my 1967 Traveller for the next ~ 4 months, but (sadly) I need to keep the vehicle outside.

Has anyone got any recommendations for a suitable cover under which I can store the car ??

There is one very strange website that I've just been looking at where they recommend a cover for £450.00! And, it's not even gold plted for that money either!

Hi Pat,

There a some previous threads on car covers which are all worth reading. I have a 1969 Traveller which is currently hiding out the back of the house under a Stormforce cover. We found it through an E-Bay store. I think it was only around the 175-200 quid mark. While it's made to fit a Traveller it is a little baggy when fitted. We have a couple of small roof rack load straps round as well, one at the bottom of the windscreen, and one over the roof. It works perfectly well. In the recent high winds it didn't billow at all. It is well worth taking it off and airing the cover and the car every week or two, as you do get condensation over the car.
The only thing we did find was the label that says front wasn't. It was entertaining trying to fit the cover back to front.
Also, beware that cats don't use it as a scratching post. Ours do. But the plus side is that they haven't torn it.

My Stormforce was ok in the rain - but fell to bits in no time when the sun shone it........ £100 wasted for me and I would never buy another...... But maybe - if you keep the sun off it, it will last a bit longer.

As the car lives in Macclesfield, with me of course, I don't think the sunshine will be a problem! So, if it'll cope with dull grey skies and rain, that'll do!

The local moggies tend to use the roof of my wife's Mazda MX5 soft-top as a hammock.

my dad's got a stormforce cover on his mg midget, and it's worse than useless! it lets the water through and then it keeps it against the surface, trapping moisture, and damaging the paintwork.

I have one which is fantastic. again, it's advertised as waterproof/breathable. the difference is... it works :p

when i had a traveller about 4 years ago my goodlady bought me one from halfords. its breathable, with a soft iner lining. elastic corners plus 2 straps which go under the car to secure it, its been on several of my cars and now covers my van, been outside in all climates and works a treat, it was £49. they might still sell them, but will be dearer. excellent bit of kit
