MM/II Glovebox lid question

I have acquired an original clock for the glovebox lid on my car (53 spit screen bulkhead and dash) which does add to the weight of the lid, which drops down rather quickly if care is not taken and I'm concerned about the glass in the clock.

So, did early cars have some type of stay on the lid at all?

(I have seen them discussed for later cars)

Any pictures of what others may have please would be very useful or any advice on what to use/how to fix in place would be greatly appreciated.

No stay was fitted as standard but at least they had a proper release button, unlike that silly magnet which releases the glovebox lid to hit the passenger's knees every time the car goes over a bump

Ahh, good point and thanks for the feedback.

I was sure I'd seen a car with a 'wire' stay on, so it must have been home made

My MM had a strange hinge that seemed to stop it falling more than 90degrees, unfortunately they were seized and had broken off and I replaced them with the hinges from a 1098 dash glovebox.

On my blue minor 1969, I have a peice of plywood shaped the same as the glovebox lid and a chain screwed to were the glovebox liner attaches the to the car at the top to use as somewere to set your cup for those wet days in a rally field! Will try and remember to take a pic soon.

I remember someone on the JOGLE Run a few years back, pressing the little button to open the glove box lid and the lid, with clock, dropping open heavily onto the (sleeping) passengers knee hard enough to crack the glass (and wake the passenger...).
Just one of those moments...
