Cavity inspection tools

Hi,

Has anyone used one of the cavity inspection tools like the draper or snake vision. Are they worth investing in? Any reccomendations? thanks chris

I bought one like this from Ebay;

I find that the built in light isn't enough to give a decent picture so it's less useful than I'd thought in totally dark areas.

I bought one with a small built in screen from Maplin. Its a very useful tool but the images are not good enough for a serious assessment of how bad rot is in a cavity. Great for spotting filler and pu foam bodges without major dismantelling. Also retrieving lost nuts in doors etc. I wonder if the type which plug in to the usb on your laptop might benefit from the bigger picture.

Hi, thanks. Looks like I may have saved a few pennies!! Do you think if a light source was added into the cavity as well things would be better?

Probably but it would need to mounted in a similar way as the camera to make it steerable.

lost nuts and sockets -I've always resorted to the extending stick magnet (like an aerial stick with a small magnet on the end).

Yes but with the camera (with a magnet attachment clipped on) you can see what you are picking up!
