Brake adjusters

Post by gatsby989 »

If the weather ever warms up, I'd like to upgrade my 7" front drums to 8" drums. Are the brake adjusters for 8" front brakes different from the 7" ones?

The Moss catalogue lists only one part no. for all brake adjusters. Provided that the adjusters do not click over when you adjust the brakes then there is no problem

Supposedly the 8" adjusters are slightly larger - but my guess is that the smaller adjusters will be fine - at least until the shoes wear down !

you need the larger adjusters,as soon as the shoes wear then you run out of adjustment, when I did mine I tried the smaller and found that even with new shoes the brakes only just rubbed on full adjustment ,If you have trouble finding the larger Chris at tom roys had loads of secondhand ones i'm sure he will sort some out for you. You will find a masive difference in the braking when you fit them by the way.

A shim under the heel of each brake shoe works wonders for keeping the show more 'square' to the drum when the lining starts to wear down......
