HIF44 conections

Post by Hendy1201 »

Hi all

Finally got my 1275 engine in the car and the majority of it connected up, however, I would like some advice on connecting the throttle and choke cables to the HIF44 carb please. Can I use the standard minor cables or is there a better alternative? Also how do the cables fit to the heat shield/plate? Any pics would be great please.

On a different note, altering the V5 with the DVLA, is it right I need a garage to inspect the car and get written proof of the change before notifying them. Thanks in advance. :D

Oh yeah, and sorry if I don't reply til Sunday but i'm away this weekend.

on the v5 note, you dont need a written garage note, just get your log book and on it inside its got any change to vehicle details, just edit it with its new engine size, date it and sign the declaration and send it back to dvla, swansea, sa99 1ba and you will have it back withing approx 14 days. Job done ! :D

Can you still get away with that these days?

I had read that too, but was unsure if it was just when the tax group would be changed.

You will likely need a longer throttle cable - be sure to buy TWO, ands carry the spare in the glove box. You may get away with the choke cable you have. DVLA were being very sticky about engine upgrades for Minis and Minors for a while - my advice is to get the car MOTd and taxed up for a year before sending the V%c to DVLA - but do tell your Insurance co. I believe they have now relented for Historic cars - since the reason for the stickiness before was where people were claiming they had fitted a smaller engine to their car -to drop TAX class and save money. Since a Historic is free TAX - they have finally realised there wouldn't be any point......
