Factory underside finish from back in the day.

Having a poke round my splitty and have peeled away large areas of bitumen undercoating as its loose in places and going to start causing more issues in the near future!

Does anyone know what the standard was for minors leaving Cowely?

Heres what mine looks like.







Cant see any seams or overlaps anywhere on the underside - Which, to me says - I havent been welded!

If it has been welded, then I would love to be able to weld at that standard

The brown finish is from the roto dip process they went through for rust protection.

Wow, if it is a standard finish on the underside I have a splitscreen which has not been welded other than two points on the sills.

Undersides absolutely immaculate, even the chassis legs are totally straight and untouched.

Will get some more shots up. Cant beleive its standard - looks too good to be true!

mine was ziebarted from new and agin my floor pans are all original and chassis legs as well never been touched

A very good finish can be obtained by diluting black underseal 50/50 with white spirit. It doesn't crack or peel and looks like a satin paint. One of our club members did the chassis and underwing areas of his 1935 Lanchester like this and it looks superb even after many years.

Not sure exactly what was "standard". Mine is the same as Heathy's (without so much peeling ) It was undersealed when new and still has the guarantee sticker in the windscreen. "Undersealed, Guaranteed for the life of this Car"

If I do get any corrosion I will expect it to be repaired under warranty Probably need these Chinese fellows to open a local Rover dealership first though....
