Breather pipe driping oil
Went to a view a Minor last night advertised on here. I noticed the the front tappet chest cover breather pipe that points to the floor was dripping a large amount of oil on the floor. The engine seemed nice and painted say 18 months the paint etc.... there was no history reguarding the engine and they was using a lead additve so guessing the cylinder head has been converted. The engine was leaking alot of oil from the back also, i no minors leak but the main concern was the breather pipe leaking oil, i was thinking the engine was very worn, causing blow by and pushing the oil out, the engine is a 1098....
any ideas.....

Maybe back pressure from the engine?

For £2750 I would expect a good condition car to go with the engine. You can rebuild or buy a good engine for a fraction of that price.

Yes i was thinking of buying the car, but the engine needs rebuilding..... rust too lower doors, roof gutters corroded and rear window panel area bead is cracking and rust forming. both rear quarter door shut b post badly cracked, again difficult repairalso no jacking points..... i think £2750 was way to much for the work i think it needs

With all that trouble you've listed, the engine would be the last thing on my mind, I'd have gone before lifting the bonnet!
Good move, not to buy.

There are a couple of good Series MMs for sale for less than that.

Re: Breather pipe driping oil
The test for such an engine is to take the oil filler cap off - and with the engine hot after a test run - rev up! If there is a cloud of smoke/fume - it's on it's last legs. But the other problems are indeed more relevant...
