Period Radio

Hi guys, proud owner of a 63 convertible, and looking for a period radio to fit in Millie (previous owners named her). Anyone got pictures of theirs and also if anyone has a link for period radios, would be very much appreciated.

I also need a Tannau cover for my hood when its folded, where can I get one from.

The radios fitted as standard at the time were produced by Smiths Radiomobile. The higher spec units had five pre select buttons for tuning. Unfortunately only LW and MW were available (from Radiomobile and almost all period units). However there are plenty on eBay that have been converted to plug in your MP3, ipod, etc. There are also some very nice retro style modern radios. The only downside is the price!

To my knowledge, no radios were ever fitted as standard to Minors, even the very latest of them............though I would love to be enlightened!

However, any of the links listed above by Neil will give you good results about kind of head unit. As to mounting locations, I would say the two used most often are 1) inside a glovebox or 2) underneath a glovebox, slung in a rack under the dash. It is conceivable that a head unit could be mounted in the center of the dash, if you have the earlier round heater (or no heater at all), but it would be a struggle. I think someone on here mounted their head unit underneath the driver's seat, but that's not advisable if using a unit that relies on visual cues to navigate.

According to Ray Newell roof mounted radio aerials were an available accessory for 1098 models. The Radiomobile radios were the standard dealer installation. 1098 Installation kit IK/MR19 and (wing mounted) aerial AW.92. I believe they were fitted to the bottom of the dashboard under the glove box.

Anyone got any period litrature, photos, ads. etc?
