It was only 200 metres, but we had to drive no faster than five miles an hour, could have used a man with a red flag walking ahead of us, but we made it home without drama.[frame]Image[/frame]

The engine runs, Sounds like an old truck, so it needs further refinement. Ive listened carefully to what Stan has said, the front oil seal needs to be replaced, when it gets up to temperature oil leaks from the old seal, so the radiator needs to come out so I can get at that. The forward fuel line needs re positioning to stop it chaffing on the engine, I need to re seat the front passenger side brake line where it connects to the brake, that leaks. I still have a few missing split pins, check all bolts are tight front to rear. Quite a list, but nothing I can't handle.[frame]Image[/frame]

Stan re worked the temporary heater hose to prevent the kink in the old hose from circulating the coolant.[frame]Image[/frame]

the starter dog can be a pain to get off, though it shouldn't be if it's been off recently. pop the car in 4th and chock the wheels with the handbrake on (belt and braces :P) then the engine won't rotate with the dog. if it puts up a fight, a sharp tap with a hammer on the end of the spanner should free it :)

Deep socket (ring spanner and tube) long handle against the floor and pull the starter....

Couldn't avoid a great puddle on the garage floor, despite all my containers in position, still, mop and bucket at the ready. The Radiator water looks mucky and a little rusty. That went on the front garden hydranger, makes them go from pink to blue.[frame]Image[/frame]

Ive ordered the oil seal that fits in here, it doesn't appear to have one fitted, so I guess the seal fits in here from the front? or does it go behind the pulley wheel, making the removal of the pulley wheel necessary?[frame]Image[/frame]

the seal is fitted inside the timing chain cover. you'll have to pull the pulley off, and unbolt the front cover.

best make sure you've got a timing chain cover gasket to hand while you're there.

yes and a replacement pulley wheel, getting this one off is proving a problem, getting it off without damaging it is impossible.[frame]Image[/frame]

Hi David, if you can i would replace it with a pulley from a mini if you can find one if not try bm or esm for a cast one,
please don't refit the old one take a look at mine i checked it the week before it failed and there was no damage that i could see :o[frame]Image[/frame]

yes replacement is already on order, Ive got three rest days off now, so I hope the pulley wheel, oil seal and timing chain cover gasket arrive tommorow. The axle stands are on their highest settings, Ive not had it up this high before, Ive a lot of work to do underneath and I want plenty of room, Ive done the safety check and it's all secure.[frame]Image[/frame]

from underneath I can get a different angle on the bent and busted pulley wheel. I'm hopeing a few sharp taps with a bar and lump hammer will free it.[frame]Image[/frame]
